3/4 cups butter
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 cup molasses
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/4 tsp soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cloves
3/4 tsp allspice
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking powder
3 cups flour
FILLING:
3 cups dried apples
1 1/2 cup sugar
2 1/2 cups water

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar together add eggs and molasses and mix well.  Add soda to buttermilk, mix dry ingredients together with milk and batter - beginning and ending with dry ingredients.  Bake in thin layers about 1/2 inch thick at 350 for 15-20 minutes.
FILLING:
Cook together.  When almost done add tsp each allspice, cinnamon, cloves.  Cool.  Spread between layers.
