1 c. raisins 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. water 1 tsp. soda
2/3 c. shortening 1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. sugar 1/2 tsp. cloves
2 egg 2 c. rolled oats
1 tsp. vanilla 1/2 c. chopped nuts (opt.)
2 1/2 c. flour

Directions:
Directions:
Simmer raisins and water in a saucepan over low heat for 10-15 minutes until the raisins are plump. Drain raisin liquid into measuring cup. Add enough water to make 1/2 c. Cream shortening and sugar together. Add eggs and vanilla and mix. Stir in raisin liquid and continue to beat until fluffy. In a separate bowl combine flour, baking powder, salt, soda and spices. Blend dry ingredients into creamed ingredients. Add rolled oats, raisins and nuts. Bake at 400º for 8-10 minutes on an ungreased cookie sheet. Remove immediately from cookie sheet and cool on wire rack.
