3 c. lukewarm water
1 pkg. yeast
1/2 c. white sugar
1/4 c. brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. molasses
1 Tbps. Crisco
1 Tbps. anise seed
Orange peel from 1/2 orange, chopped fine
3 c. rye flour
6 c. white flour

Mix all ingredients. Let rise once for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Punch down and let rise until doubled in bulk again. Divide into 3 loaf pans and rise again.

Bake at 400º for 10 min. then 350º for 35-40 min. more.

This is a Swedish recipe I got from a neighbor whose mother was very "Swedish." The anise and orange peel give a wonderful flavor to the bread; and toasted, it's delicious.
