1 cup butter, softened
¾ cup sugar
¾ cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 lg. eggs, beaten
2 ¼ cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
¼ tsp. ground cloves
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
1 cup chopped nuts
2 to 2 ½ cups chopped candy fruit (Fruit Cake Mix)
1 sm. carton of citron
1 sm. carton of candied lemon peel
1/2 cup currants or golden raisins

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Cream butter, sugars and vanilla until smooth. Add eggs. Mix together flour, baking soda, salt and spices; add to creamed mixture. Stir in fruit and nuts. Drop by well rounded teaspoon onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 8 to 10 minutes.
Note: If dough is too soft add a small amount of flour.

People who hate fruit cake always love these. I would take them to work to snack on and it was always the fruit cake haters who ate the most of these. This uses Gene's basic chocolate chip cookie recipe, with the fruit cake mix added instead of chocolate chips.
