"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

A reminder of childhood of playing in the water at the fireplug on the corner of Short Street and 5th Avenue. On hot days there was no pool for children to get cooled off. So the firemen would turn on the water and let it spray till all the kids in Guyandotte could get wet and cool off. Running and screaming. Then years later they put a pool by the fire department. We use to take Marlene and sit beside the pool so she could swim.
