I remember waking up on Saturday mornings when I was little and even later when I was a teenager, expecting to see Uncle Jerry sitting in the kitchen with a cup of coffee. He would come to Guyandotte from his house in Barboursville to get a haircut. Then he would come to our house-which was the house he grew up in- and he and my dad would talk about whatever came to mind, usually memories of their childhood.
I always had and continue to have a close attachment to my Uncle Jerry. He and Aunt Donna helped take care of me one time when Mom had surgery.
Uncle Jerry always gives me a comforting squeeze when I see him and asks, "You doin' okay?"
