I remember Granny and the family making apple butter--the turning of the old apple peel, all the yellow jackets that came around, the silver coins thrown in the pot to bring you good luck if it ended up in your jar.
They did that with fresh canned kraut, too. Today, all we can think about is that the coins are covered with germs.
Life back then was oh, so sweet. When people today hear us say, "sweet", they have no idea!
