Ingredients: 2 pkg. yeast or 2 T. dry yeast 2 tsp. w. sugar 1/2 c. lukewarm water (100 degrees) Mix the above ingreds. to make the yeast dissolve. 2 c. lukewarm milk (100 degrees), scalded 1/2 c. butter, melted 1/2 c. w. sugar 1T. salt 4 eggs, well beaten 8 to 8 1/2 c. AP flour Topping: sm container of Sour Cream 2 T. br. sugar Sprinkles of cinnamon

Directions:Do the yeast mixture first. Then, in a pan on stovetop, scald milk. Add butter to milk so it can melt. Cool to 100 degrees. Add yeast mixture to warm milk. Place into a large bowl. Add or fold in the eggs, salt and w. sugar. Gradually add flour. Beat well. Use as much of extra 1/2 c. flour just to make smooth dough. Place dough in a lightly greased large bowl. Cover with a tea towel and let rise about 2 hrs. Knead for 10 mins. Let rest 10 mins. Shape as desired. (Makes 4 or 5 cakes). Let rise again for 1/2 to 3/4 of an hr. Bake at 350º for 20- 25 mins. When cooled, spread top of cakes with sour cream. Sprinkle with br. sugar and a shake or two of cinnamon on top. You can add chopped nuts if you desire. |
