2/3 cup shortening
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 c brown sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
1 6-ounce package chocolate chips (1 cup)

Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening, granulated sugar, brown sugar, egg and vanilla together. Add flour, soda and salt. Mix well. Fold in chocolate chips and nuts if desired. Drop by heaping teaspoons on baking sheet. Bake at 375º for 8 - 10 minutes until golden brown. Makes 4-5 dozen cookies.
