1/2 c. flour
1 c. molasses
1 tsp. cloves
1 T. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 lemon rind grated or chopped fine
8 eggs - 2 whole eggs and 6 egg yokes
1 lb. German Sweet Chocolate, grated
1 lb. pecans chopped fine

Stir and blend flour and molasses, add cloves, cinnamon, baking powder, lemon rind, eggs, then German Sweet Chocolate and pecans. Mix until
smooth.

Pour in greased floured 9 x 12 pyrex or pan. Bake at 300º about 1 hour or until toothpick test shows it to be done. Let cool down and then cut into about 1 1/2" squares as this is a very rich cookie. This cookie is good as is. The original recipe calls for adding your favorite boiled icing and top with a half candied cherry.

Recipe is from my grandmother, Rosa Leitner Klar, who was born in Reid, Austria in 1879, arriving in the USA in the early 1890s. It is believed the recipe came from a German friend in this country.
