2 sticks butter or margarine softened
1 2/3 cups sugar
5 eggs
2 cups flour
1 tsp vanilla

Preheat oven to 325º
Grease and flour cake pan.
1. Cream butter and sugar well - until whipped cream stage.
2. Add eggs one at a time. Beat well after each addition.
3. Stir in flour and vanilla.
4. Bake 1 hour or until knife inserted comes out clean.

This has always been my favorite cake. The first time Grandma Bennett met David, she promised to bake him a butter cake when we got married. We returned from our honeymoon to the neat foil wrapped package containing his cake. It was a wonderful gift.
