1 c. butter or margarine
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
3 c. quick cooking oats
1/2 c. walnuts chopped (optional)
1/2 c. raisins or dried cranberries (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Mix butter, sugars and eggs. Add vanilla and dry ingredients. After mixture is mixed throughly, add oats, walnuts and dried fruit.

Form dough into log on waxed paper and refrigerate until chilled. When dough is chilled, slice into 1/4 inch thick slices. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 350° for 10 minutes. Let cool slightly before removing from cookie sheet.

A little flour may be sprinkled on the wax paper as the dough is sticky.
