1/2 c. shortening 1/2 c. white sugar
1 c. brown sugar 2 eggs
1 c. carnation evaporated milk 1 tsp. vanilla
2 3/4 c. flour 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt 1 c. walnuts (optional)

BURNT BUTTER GLAZE:
2 tbsp. butter 1/4 c. evaporated milk
2 c. powdered sugar

Directions:

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, milk, and vanilla. Sift together flour, salt, and baking soda and stir in. Add nuts. Chill at least 1 hour. Bake at 375º for 10 minutes. While warm, frost with glaze. Burnt Butter Glaze: Heat butter until brown. Add evaporated milk and powdered sugar. Stir until smooth. (Usually double this entire recipe).
