4 medium tart cooking apples (4 cups)
2/3 to 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup quick-cooking or old-fashioned oats
1/3 cup stick margarine or butter, softened
3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
3/4 tsp ground nutmeg

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 375ºF. Grease bottom and sides of square pan, 8x8x2 inches, with shortening or cooking spray.
Arrange apples in pan. Mix remaining ingredients. Sprinkle over apples.
Bake about 30 minutes or until topping is golden brown and apples are tender. Serve warm and, if desired, with cream or ice cream.

Blueberry Crisp: substitute 4 c. fresh or frozen (thawed and drained) blueberries for the apples.
