4 tbsp. butter
3 to 3 1/2 lbs. chicken pieces, skinned
1 1/2 cups sliced mushrooms
1/2 cup chopped onions
1/2 cup finely chopped ham or bacon
3/4 cup dry white wine
3/4 cup chicken broth
1 tbsp. parsley
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 clove garlic
pepper, to taste

Melt butter in a large skillet. Cook chicken until lightly browned on all sides. Push chicken to one side and add mushrooms, onions and ham, stirring often until onions are a little limp. Distribute the chicken pieces evenly over the skillet bottom. Add the wine, broth, parsley, garlic and pepper. Cover, reduce heat to a medium simmer, and cook 45 minutes or until the chicken is done. Remove the chicken to a serving plate and keep warm. Add the cream to liquid remaining in skillet; simmer until thickened. Pour cream sauce over chicken and serve.
