"A man who was fond of wine was offered some grapes at dessert after dinner. "Much obliged," said he, pushing the plate aside; "I am not accustomed to take my wine in pills."--Jean Antheleme Brillat-Savarin, The Physiology of Taste

Personal Notes:
Aunt Aggie would make this for us when the cousins came to stay on the farm. We loved it and begged our mom (Auntie Vee) to make "Wiener Gravy". She kept saying you can't make gravy from wieners. She really laughed when she found out what it was.

****Auntie, you were ahead of the times. Last Sunday evening on Iron Chef America, Chef Michael Symon took the evening's ingredient, HOT DOGS and guess what... made wiener gravy! Three cheers to Auntie, a true Iron Chef!****
