Cream together:
1 c. shortening
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1 egg

Mix together and stir into creamed mixture:
2 c. flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/4 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375º.

Roll into walnut sized balls. Roll balls in sugar and place on greased cookie sheet. Flatten slightly with a small spatula or butter knife.

Bake until brown - about 8 to 10 mins. Yield: 24 cookies

This is just a very plain little sugar cookie. Good with a cup of tea or hot chocolate on a winter day - or any day, for that matter.
