3 T. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
1 c. sifted flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. chopped pecans
1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. cocoa
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. boiling water

Directions:
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350º F.
2. Thoroughly cream together shortening and 3/4 c. sugar.
3. Sift together flour, baking powder, and 1/2 tsp. salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, stirring after each addition to blend well.
4. Fold in chopped nuts, if desired.
5. Turn into greased 8x8x2 pan.
6. Mix together 1/2 c. white and brown sugars, cocoa, 1/4 tsp. salt. Sprinkle over top of the batter in the pan. DO NOT MIX.
7. Pour boiling water over the whole works; again, do not mix.
8. Bake 40-45 minutes or until done.
