1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sour milk
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. soda
1 egg
1/4 tsp. salt
2 squares melted chocolate
1 1/4 cup sifted flour
4 oz. bottle Maraschino cherries and juice
1/2 cup nuts
Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening, sugar and eggs. Add melted chocolate and then add other ingredients. Bake in a square pan for 30 minutes at 350º.

FROSTING:
4 Tbs. butter
1 cup sugar
2 Tbs. cocoa
1/4 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
Cook 1 minute. Add teaspoon vanilla when done.

This recipe is from Aunt Mitzi's 1959 St. Patrick's Mother's Club Cookbook in Corpus Christi. She gave me this cookbook when I went to take care of her a few years ago. The recipe's added from this cookbook are the entries under her name in the cookbook.
