1 1/4 cup of sugar
1/4 cup of water
pinch of salt
3 lbs of apples
pie crust
1 tbsp flour
1/2 tsp cinnamon
dash nutmeg
butter

Directions:
Directions:
Combine water, sugar and pinch of salt in skillet and heat almost to a boil. Peel and quarter 3 lbs (large mixer bowl full) apples. Heat in sugar syrup until tender and done. Place in a large shell. Thicken syrup with 1 tbsp flour. Sprinkle with cinnamon, dash of nutmeg, spot chunks of butter throughout. Pour syrup over all, cover in lattice work crust. Bake @ 450º for 15 minutes, reduce heat to 400º and cook 30 minutes more, or until apples are well done.

My preferred apples are york, greenine, granny smith and stayman are all good for keeping apple wedges whole in a pie, rome and mckintosh turn mushy.
