Ingredients: Kolacky Dough 1 qt liquid (1/2 milk, 1/2 water) 3 pkgs of active dry yeast 3/4 c. shortening ( 1/2 butter, 1/2 crisco) 2/3 c. sugar 2 egg yolks 2 heaping tsp. salt Dash of nutmeg 9 c. flour - heaping cups.
Prune filling for Kolacky 1 lb. prunes 2 c. thick apple sauce sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon

Directions:Measure 1 cup of the liquid warmed up (110 to 115 F). Add 3 pkgs of yeast. Let sit for 10 minutes. Mix in remaining ingredients with spoon until smooth. Add enough remaining flour to handle easily; mix with hand. Turn onto lightly floured board; knead until smooth and elastic (about 5 min.). Round up in greased bowl, greased side up. Cover with damp cloth. Let rise in warm place (85º) until double (about 1 1/2 hr.). Punch down; let rise again until double (about 30 min.). Roll dough 1/8 " thick. Cut into 3" squares. Place a spoonful of prune filling on each. Fold corners to center, pinch together tightly.Let rise on greased baking sheet until not quite doubled (30 to 40 minutes). Bake until brown at 400º for about 12 to 15 minutes.
Prune filling Stew 1 lb. of prunes. Remove stones and chop to pulp. Add 2 c. thick apple sauce, sugar to taste and 1 tsp. of cinnamon. |

Notes: Irene's notes: Grandma Pribyl used to buy both prune and poppy seed in can. Soak and cook 1 c. raisins for each. Grind them and add to each can with 3 T. honey. Was good and made them more moist.
