1 C chopped dates
1 tsp baking soda
1 C hot water
1 C sugar
1/2 C butter
1/2 C shortening
2 eggs beaten
1 tsp vanilla
1 & 3/4 C flour
2 T cocoa powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 package chocolate chips (Stan feels it is wrong to skimp on the choc chips so you may need to eye-ball this)
1/2 C chopped nuts

Directions:
Combine dates with hot water and soda and then let cool. Cream together wet ingredients and sift together dry ingredients. Add dry ingredients alternately with the date mixture. Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts on top of cake. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 min.
