5 SLICES BACON
1 ONION
2 TBSP BACON DRIPPINGS
3/4 C DARK BROWN SUGAR
3/4 C VINEGAR
3/4 C WATER
3/4 TSP SALT
DASH OF PEPPER
1 GRANNY SMITH APPLE

IN LARGE SKILLET BROWN BACON AND SET ASIDE. RESERVE 2 TBSP OF THE DRIPPINGS AND BROWN ONION IN THE DRIPPINGS. ADD THE SUGAR, VINEGAR, WATER, SALT, PEPPER, AND APPLE. STIR OVER MEDIUM HEAT UNTIL WELL MIXED. ADD THE CABBAGE AND COOK COVERED FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES. TASTE AND ADD ADDITIONAL BROWN SUGAR OR VINEGAR AS NECESSARY. CRUMBLE THE BACON OVER THE CABBAGE BEFORE SERVING.
