1 c. butter softened
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. Vanilla extract
1/4 tsp. salt
2 3/4 c. flour
and additional 1/4 c. sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Beat butter on high speed for 30 seconds. Add 1 1/2 cups of sugar and beat until combined. Beat in eggs, cream of tartar, baking soda, vanilla extract and salt until combined. Beat in flour. Cover and chill 2-3 hours. Preheat oven 375ºF.
Shape dough into 1 in balls. Roll balls in the 1/4 c. of sugar to coat. Place balls 2 in. apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 9-12 mins or until light brown. Transfer to a wire rack and let cool
