3 C shredded cabbage
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1/3 C water
2 Tbsp butter
2 Tbsp sifted flour
1 C milk
1/2 C shredded cheddar
Buttered bread crumbs

Directions:
Directions:
Place cabbage in saucepan; add salt, sugar and water. Cover and cook for 8-10 minutes. Melt butter in 1-qt saucepan over low heat; add flour. Mix until smooth. Add remaining 1/2 tsp salt and milk; cook over medium heat, stirring until smooth and thickened. Add cheese and reduce heat to low. Stir until cheese melts. Place half the cabbage in casserole dish; pour half the sauce over the cabbage. Repeat layers and cover top with bread crumbs. Bake in preheated 350º oven for 20 minutes or until brown and bubbly.
