1 lb. ground beef,
1 lb. ground pork,
1 C par-boiled rice ,
2 onions chopped,
1/4 C butter,
2-4 garlic cloves, chopped,
3 eggs,
3/4 tsp black pepper,
1 tsp salt,
1 large head cabbage,
3 large cans sauerkraut,

Cut the core from the cabbage and place in boiling water for 15 minutes. Cool in water and separate leaves from head. Rinse sauerkraut lightly in cold water. Drain. Saute onions and garlic in butter until yellow. Beat eggs, add them along with drained rice, salt, pepper and sautéed onions and garlic. Mix well. Add meat and mix again. Place 1/2 of the kraut in a large pot. Roll 1/2 to 3/4 cup of meat mixture in a cabbage leaf and lay on kraut. This should make 8-12 cabbage rolls, depending on how large you make them. Cover with the rest of kraut. Before this final step you may add Polish sausage if desired, then pour on hot water to cover. Simmer about 2 1/2 hours.

Do not pack rolls to tight as they expand during cooking. Serve with boiled potatoes and rye bread.
