3 cups strained applesauce
1 lb. chopped dates
1 cup shortening
1 lb. raisins
2 cups sugar
1/4 lb. chopped nuts
4 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 lb. candied fruit
4 tsp. soda
1 tsp. nutmeg
2 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Boil applesauce, sugar, and shortening together for 5 minutes and set aside to cool.
Dredge (coat) nuts and fruits with flour, soda, and spices sifted together. Mix all ingredients well and bake in loaf pans lined with waxed paper.
Place a pan of water in bottom of oven while baking fruit cake.
Bake at 250 about 2 hours or until it tooth pick tests shows done. Makes 3 loaf pans.
