1 cup lukewarm milk
1/2 cup of sugar
1 tsp salt
2 cakes of compressed yeast (or pkgs of dry yeast) if dry yeast is used omit 1/2 cup of milk and soak 2pkg. of dry yeast in 1/2 cup of lukewarm water for 5 min.without stirring. Stir well before adding.
2 eggs
1/2 cup of soft shortening
4 1/2 to5 cups of sifted flour

mix together milk,sugar and salt. Then crumble in the cakes of yeast or the pkgs of the yeast which have been soaked in lukewarm water for 5 minutes.
Stir until yeast is dissolve and mixed in.
Stir in the eggs and shortening.
Mix in the flour with a spoon in 2 additions,using the amount necessary to make it easy to handle.
By hand mix and knead the dough.[For excellent eating and keeping quality,keep the dough as soft as possible,almost sticky...just so you're able to handle.
Knead on lightly floured board.Then place into a greased bowl turning once to bring greased side up and cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm (80-85 degrees) draft free spot until doubled(1 1/2 to 2 hours) Then press two fingers into the dough. It will leave an indentation when the dough is doubled. Punch down:Thrust fist into dough,pull edges into the center and turn completely over in the bowl. Let rise again until almost double in bulk ( 30 - 45 min)
After second rising divide the dough and cover. Let rest 15 minutes so dough is easy to handle and shape to cinnamon rolls or Swedish ring,or other breads
Shape th dough then bake on lightly greased pan. For rolls of shapes Bake 12 - 20 minutes at 425º
