1/2 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup shortening
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 cup buttermilk
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped nuts
2 cups raw diced apples

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening and sugars. Add eggs. Dissolve baking soda in buttermilk. Sift flour, salt baking powder, cinnamon. Add alternately with buttermilk. Mix in chopped apples and nuts. Place in greased and floured 9 x 13 pan.

Topping:
Mix together
1/3 cup white sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped nuts.
Sprinkle on top of batter.
Bake in moderate 350º oven for 45 minutes or until done.
Serve warm with whipped cream or other topping.
