4 eggs beaten
1 cup white sugar
4 tbsp. shortening
4 cups flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
4 tbsp. grated orange rind and 1 cup of juice

Directions:
Directions:
Beat eggs and sugar together. Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt alternating the flour and juice. Drop by small teaspoons into hot oil. Use 2 spoons dipped in oil first- this allows the dough to slide off easy from the spoon. Turn to brown evenly. Lift from oil with slotted spoon.

Grandma Clara Ready used to make these for breakfast when her children were small. The smell of these doughnuts makes your home smell wonderful. Make them with your children they will love them. You can sprinkle doughnuts with powdered sugar or cinnamon and sugar mixture. Enjoy this wonderful treat!!!
