8 slices of bacon or salt pork, 1 cup minced onion, 2 tbsp parsley, 1/2 tsp black pepper, 1 bay leaf, 2 dozen clams and juice from same, 1 can diced tomatoes, 3 cups diced potatoes, 3 cups green pepper, and 3 cups of celery, 6 cups water

In a heavy pot, saute bacon or salt pork, then add onions, peppers and celeryand saute until softened. Add tomatoes, bay leaf, parsley, water. Simmer 1/2 hour and then add rest of vegetables and clams. Cook another 45 minutes. Season to taste.
