1 cup of sugar
1/3 cup water
1/3 tsp. cream of tartar
2 egg whites (1/3 cup)
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Boil slowly, (1cup of sugar, 1/3 cup water, and 1/3 tsp. cream of tartar) without stirring until the syrup spins to a 6 to 8 in. thread (242º).
Keep the saucepan covered the 1st. 3 minutes to prevent crystals from forming on the sides of the pan.
While the syrup is cooking,beat until stiff enough to hold a point...2 egg whites (1/3 cup)
Pour hot syrup very slowly in a thin stream into stiffly beaten egg whites,beating constantly.
Add 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Beat until frosting holds it's shape. Spread between layers and on the top and sides.

Note:
for a very special eating quality, carefully fold into Fluffy White Frosting at the last, 1-2 Tbsp. very soft butter.

Well girls and boys, Good Luck on this one. My mother loved to make this but when she made this one I had to sit at the table and not hardly breathe. I dare not speak. As she grew older she didn't make it anymore. On the other hand I remember it being quite lovely and even heavenly;so soft and totally sweet. A very sweet memory of my young mother.
