Ingredients: Dough: 2 eggs 1/4 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking powder 1 cup water 2 cups flour
Filling: 1 pint cottage cheese 2 large eggs 4 green onion chopped fine salt and pepper to taste
Another version of Dough: 3 cups flour pinch of salt 1/2 warm water 2 large eggs

Directions:Roll out 1/8 inch thick; cut in 3 inch squares place spoonful of filling on square and seal. Drop in boiling water with salt added. Boil 10 min then drain; fry in butter or roll in crushed bread crumbs fry until browned; pour over Knupfla.
Instructions for other version: Mix filling ingredients together and refrigerate; combing flour, salt, warm water and 2 eggs together to form a stiff dough; knead and divide into three parts. Place dough on a board and cover with an inverted bowl. Let rest for 1 hour, kneading once after 30 minutes. Roll dough out thin and cut into 4 inch by 4 inch squares. Put about 1 tbsp of filling on one side of dough square. Dampen edges with water. Fold over and press edges together to seal. Repeat process using all dough. In a large pot of gently boiling water, cook buttons for 15 minutes. Lift out with slotted spoon, draining thoroughly. Lightly brown the buttons in a butted pan or one sprayer with nonstick cooking spray. |

Notes: This recipe has been passed down by Grandma Johanna Stroh. It could have been served for supper with bratwurst, sauerkraut or steamed red beets. These are also referred to as cheese buttons. Many memories are in this recipe.
