6 eggs
3 cups sugar
1 cup milk
1 cup sweet cream
1 cup shortening
2 tbsp. baking ammonia (Hearts Horn or ammonia bicarbonate)

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve ammonia in a little milk and add one tsp flavoring (peppermint extract or oil) make sure to wear a mask as this is very strong and will take your breath away. Mix ingredients together in a well ventilated area and add enough flour to make a soft dough. Let stand over night. In the morning roll and cut with cookie cutters.
Bake 350º until golden brown
can frost and decorate when cooled.

Very old European cookies passed down for many generations. One needs to wear a mask when dissolving the ammonia because it is very strong. Delicious and well worth it in the end. The ammonia acts like a yeast and makes the cookies crisp.
