Combine the following ingredients and cook to soft ball stage:
2 cups sugar
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp soda
1 tbsp white karo syrup
pinch of salt

Directions:
Remove from heat and add 1/2 stick butter and 2 cups pecans. Beat until it loses its gloss and drop by spoonfuls onto waxed paper.
