Ingredients: 1 cup white sugar 1 cup brown sugar 1 1/2 cups shortening (can use 1/2 shortening and 1/2 butter or margarine) 2 eggs 1 cup molasses 4 cups flour 4 teaspoons soda 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon salt 2 teaspoons cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon cloves 1 teaspoons ginger

Directions:In a large bowl mix white and brown sugar and shortening. Add beaten eggs and molasses and mix well. Blend flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and spices. Add flour mixture to the sugar and shortening, eggs and molasses. Mix well and drop heaping teaspoons of dough into dish of white sugar and roll to cover. Then roll into balls in the palm of your hand; place on cookie sheets; bake at 400º for approximately 10 to 12 minutes. Oven temperatures may vary. Adjust accordingly. Cookies will flatten as they bake. They should be soft and chewy and are best if not overdone. |
