Directions:Sift together flour and baking powder. Beat eggs and sugar together. Add flour and melted butter alternately while mixing. The batter should be stiff enough to handle. You may roll the dough into small balls or roll them long, like a small log. You bake them in a regular Waffle Iron. Leave them to brown lightly, doesn't take long. Let them cool. While they are cooling, make a glaze of water, confection sugar and food coloring of your choice. I use different colorings and so I make several batches of glaze in different bowls. The glaze should not be too thick. Dip the cookies into the glaze then put them out to dry on wax paper spread out on your kitchen table – it will fill the whole table with lots of cookies. Turn them over from time to time to dry out (this will take a couple of hours). When glaze is dry, place them in a tin container or a large Tupperware container. They will last a long time. |

Notes: I got this recipe from my best friend Marie (Jerome) Downs, who I grew up with. We did everything lil girls did growing up together. We played house, dressed our dolls, took piano lessons together, went all through school together. We attended the same church and sang in the choir. We were always together. My friend Marie passed away from Ovarian Cancer. I miss our later years together wondering what it would be like to still be doing things together. I miss her a lot, she was a great friend and a wonderful person. This is a recipe she shared with me.
It's a German Christmas cookie recipe that has become a family favorite. We like to make these together during a long afternoon of baking and decorating cookies before Christmas.
