1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
1 large spoonful of lard
3 t. baking powder
1 c. milk
2 c. flour

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 450º. Cut lard into flour, baking powder and sugar with a pastry blender until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
Stir in milk and egg just until blended.
Turn dough onto lightly floured surface. Gently smooth into a ball.
Knead 20-25 times. Roll 1/2 inch thick. Cut with floured 3-inch cutter.
Place about 1 inch apart on an un-greased cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
Pat-in-the -pan shortcake: Do not smooth dough into a ball. Pat into greased round 8 inch pan. Bake 15-20 minutes.
