1 c. shortening
1/2 c. white sugar
1 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs, beaten
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 c. nuts (optional)
6 oz. chocolate chips

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350F.
Cream shortening with sugars. Add vanilla and eggs, beat well. Mix in dry ingredients. Drop by spoonfuls on cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes.

I think grandma and mom always doubled this recipe! I sometimes roll a portion of the dough into cookie-sized balls and freeze in an airtight container, to bake later as needed.
