2-3 c. Tomato Juice
2 tsp. Sugar
1/2 tsp. Seasoned Salt
2 c. White Sauce (Instructions Below)
1/8 tsp. Soda
2 Whole Cloves
1 T. Chopped Onion
2 Leaves Basil

White Sauce
4 T. Butter
4 T. Flour
2 c. Milk

Directions:
Directions:
Tie cloves, onion & basil in square of cheesecloth or cotton knit fabric. Use clean string. Simmer tomato juice, 1/2 c. water, sugar, salt & spice bag for 20 minutes (cover pan). Remove spice bag and throw away. Add soda. It will foam but it is ok to stir. Pour into white sauce stirring constantly. Mix well.

White Sauce: Melt butter in saucepan. Add flour and blend well. Add milk gradually stirring constantly. Cook over low heat until thick stirring constantly.

The original recipe calls for 2 c. of tomato juice, but I like 3 better.
