2/3 cup shortening
2 2/3 cup sugar
2 cups applesauce
2/3 cup water
4 eggs
3 1/3 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cloves
1 tsp cinnamon
2/3 cup nuts or raisins

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs, applesauce and water. Mix well. Sift dry ingredients together and then add to first mixture, add raisins or nuts. Spray wide-mouth pint jars with shortening, bottoms and sides. Fill jars about half full. This recipe makes 7 jars. Bake 3 or 4 jars at a time. Bake at 325º exactly 45 minutes. Remove jars from oven, one at a time and quickly screw lid on jar. Do same for remainder of jars. Let set until ready to eat. When sealed, has a "shelf-life" of 1 year.
