1 3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup butter
2 eggs
3 ripe bananas - smashed well
5 tbsp. buttermilk
1 tsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. warm water
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 & 3/4 cup pre-sifted cake flour
1 tsp vanilla
pinch of salt

Thoroughly blend sugar and shortening. Beat in eggs and bananas. Combine butter milk and vinegar and stir into banana mixture. Dissolve baking soda in water and stir into batter.

Add flour at increments and mix. Stir in nuts, vanilla and salt. Grease and flour 13X9 inch baking pan. Pour banana mixture into pan. Pre-heat oven at 350 degrees. Bake for 40-45 minutes. If so desired, sift confectioner sugar on top of cake.
