1 cup shortening (Wesson oil preferred)
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 cups applesauce
2 cups raisins (white)
2 cups nuts, chopped
3 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
To one cup of shortening add sugar, applesauce and mix well. Add cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, salt, baking powder and baking soda; add flour gradually and mix well. Last, add the raisins and nuts. Be sure to add a little flour to the raisins and nuts and mix together before you put in the batter. Top with whole walnuts. Bake in moderate oven abut 375º for 1 1/2 hours.
