1 10-oz. loaf Italian bread (unseeded)
8 eggs
3 cups milk
4 tsp. sugar
3/4 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. butter, cut in bits

Directions:
Directions:
Grease 13x9 pan. Cut bread in 1-inch thick slices; arrange in single layer in bottom of pan. Beat eggs with remaining ingredients, except butter. Pour over bread slices. Cover with foil and refrigerate 4-36 hours. Uncover; dot with butter bits. Put pan in cold oven; turn on to 350º and bake for 50 minutes, until puffy and lightly browned. Remove; Let stand 5 minutes. Serve with syrup, honey, fruit and yogurt or confectioner's sugar.
