1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup buttermilk
2 cups sugar
2 tablespoons corn syrup
1/2 cup butter
1 cup pecans or walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Stir the soda into the buttermilk. Put the sugar in a 2-quart saucepan and add the buttermilk mixture, corn syrup, and butter. Bring to a boil. Using a candy thermometer, cook the mixture to 240º F or to the medium softball stage. Remove from heat. Beat the mixture well and then stir in the nuts. Drop by heaping tablespoons onto waxed paper.

Yields 12-24 servings.
