4 c sifted flour
1 t. salt
1 t. baking soda
1 t. baking powder
1 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 t. ginger
1 t. ground cloves
1 t. cinnamon
1 t. nutmeg
1 c. molasses
2 eggs yolks

Icing:
1 box powder sugar
1/2 t. vanilla
1/4 cream of tarter
2 egg whites

Directions:
Directions:
Cream Shortening with sugar - add liquids. Sift together flour and dry ingredients, mix all liquids. Chill 1 hour. Roll out 1/8" think on wax paper. Cut out house-on wax paper. The wax paper keeps the house in shape. Bake on the wax paper for about 10-12 minutes or until brown. Bake @ 350. Peel off paper before constructing. Be sure the dough is brown.

This is a family tradition of making true 'homemade' ginger bread houses at Christmas time. From the time I was 2 years old (and Matthew was 4), 1982, we made these houses every Christmas. This recipe is from Lynn.
