1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
2 cups corn syrup
1 cup butter
1 cup lard
1 tsp. Each, star anise cinnamon, cardamom and baking soda
Pinch salt
1 cup sour cream
2 tsp. Vanilla
3 eggs
12 - 13 cups flour

Directions:

Mix together sugars, corn syrup, butter and lard together. Add spices, salt, sour cream, vanilla and eggs. Mix well. Add flour one cup at a time while mixing. Store in refrigerator for at least 48 hours to blend spices.

Roll out by hand into long sausage type rolls. Place in freezer for about 4 hours (or overnight). Take out one roll at a time and slice into 1/4 inch cookies. Bake in 300 º oven for 12 minutes. Store in airtight container.

This is Stan's Mom's recipe! She used to crush the Star Anise herself. Now I am glad we can buy it pre-ground!
