1 cup margarine or half butter and half margarine
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour (more to make a stiff dough, if necessary)
3 cups oatmeal
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 teaspoon soda dissolved in 1/4 cup hot water
1 cup raisins and/or chocolate chips
coconut (optional)

Directions:

Cream together the ingredients in the order given. Add flour, oatmeal, nuts, raisins and other goodies. Allow to stand in refrigerator until well chilled. Drop by spoonfuls and bake in 350 degree oven for 10 -12 minutes until thoroughly baked.
