1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. unsweetened applesauce

Dry ingredients:
2 c. flour
1/4 t. salt
1 t. baking powder
1/2 t. soda
1 t. cinnamon
1/2 t. cloves

1 c. chopped raisins or walnuts

Frosting:
1 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. butter
1/4 c. condensed milk
1/4 t. salt
1 t. vanilla
1/4 c. walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Add 2 beaten eggs and 1 c. applesauce. Sift together dry ingredients and add to shortening mixture. Beat until smooth. Add chopped raisins or walnuts. Put into prepared 8" x 8" pan and bake at 350º until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Combine frosting ingredients and boil about 3 minutes until it reaches soft ball stage. Take off the heat and beat in 1 t. vanilla and 1/4 c. walnuts. Spread on cake. Cool.
