Ingredients:
1/4 cup butter or margarine

2 tablespoons sugar
1 1/4 cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon soda
1/4 teaspoon each of cinnamon, ginger, and cloves

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter, add molasses and sugar and blend. Sift dry ingredients together and mix into molasses mixture. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 2 hours. Divide dough into thirds, pinch off small amounts and roll into balls (1/2 inch in diameter). Place on greased cookie sheet and flatten with a flat bottomed glass covered with plastic wrap. Bake at 375 degrees for 5-6 minutes. Let cool on the cookie sheets for three minutes and then remove to paper towel. Keep dough and pan cold for best results. For example, cool pan in refrigerator for a few minutes before reusing. Cool large dough ball before shaping. Cool shaped cookies before baking (recipe said this but may not be necessary).

Note from Andrea (Minnie/Russ/Lynn): This was written in Grandma Jean's handwriting. She added the note that these are delicious and she didn't think it was necessary to cool the shaped cookies.
